Our very own Marloes Lucy Duizer is attending the 2012 CMA Fest in Nashville this week. Over the coming days, Marloes will be sharing photos and stories from the event. Below is her first review from the 3rd Annual ‘Darius and Friends’ concert held at the Wildhorse Saloon in downtown Nashville.

Last night the 3rd Annual “Darius And Friends” Concert, a benefit for St. Jude presented by GAC, was held at the Wildhorse Saloon in downtown Nashville. The sold out show followed the Celebrity Golf Tournament hosted by the platinum-selling country artist earlier that day.

Darius’ friends taking the stage on this year’s event were Sunny Sweeney, Chuck Wicks, Rodney Atkins and Clint Black.

GAC’s Storme Warren took the stage while all attending fans took their seats, either on the floor or at one of the bars and balconies, to auction off several signed guitars by Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Kix Brooks, Marina McBride and more. Two living legends, Charlie Daniels and George Strait, donated a signed fiddle and hat, which also helped raise money for the children’s hospital.

The atmosphere was great and every one in the Wildhorse Saloon, both on and off stage, was having such a great time. What a great way to start CMA fest and raise money for a good cause. This is a ‘family’ tradition we’d all love to see continue. – Marloes Lucy Duizer

Besides the public auction there was also a silent auction where fans could bid on anything from a signed CD by Scotty McCreery to a signed guitar by Jerrod Niemann.

Kicking the party into second gear, Darius took the stage and opened the concert with his 2009 hit ‘Alright’, followed by ‘All I want’ and ‘This’, after which he brought East Texas singer Sunny Sweeney out. She rocked the highest heals while playing ‘Drink myself single’ from her ‘Concrete’ album.

Next on stage were the handsome Chuck Wicks, playing songs like ‘Old School’ and ‘The whole damn thing’, and award winning Rodney Atkins who, amongst others, played his number 1 hit ‘Take a Back Road’. Fans could walk up to take a few pictures and Rodney made a woman’s day by singing to her while she was doing just that.

Last, but not least, was Clint Black who took the stage wearing his signature black hat. He was welcomed with great cheers.

After playing a few songs, Darius and his friends joined for the final song of the night. And what better way to end it than with ‘Family Tradition’. The crowd was on their feet and singing along.

The atmosphere was great and every one in the Wildhorse Saloon, both on and off stage, was having such a great time. What a great way to start CMA fest and raise money for a good cause. This is a ‘family’ tradition we’d all love to see continue!
